At The End of the Road

"Every road's got to end somewhere, now is the time for the showdown, so let me give you the low down, oh we've come to the end of our road." (Gladys Knight)

Hello! Thank you for checking back in with our final blog post. I know that I promised you all that I would be heading East this week. However, due to some medical issues on my end, that wasn't going to be a reality. So, in leu of that, I wanted to summarize all of the trips that I have taken during the past six weeks.

First Trip

For the very first trip, we went to my hometown of Midlothian. Midlothian was a small town that had a big city attitude. It is home to one of the only short track racetracks in the county of Chesterfield called Southside Speedway. This speedway has been a comfort to me growing up, because when I first moved down to Virginia, I drove past that speedway every time I went to school. Also, I could even hear the races from my house a few miles down the road! After that, we took a look at one of my favorite places to go to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This was at Swift Creek Reservoir. It is a great spot to jog, walk, bike, and many people come to take pictures of the water as well. I remember a few years ago, I was at the Reservoir with my family, and there was a wedding happening on one of the docks! It was absolutely gorgeous.

Second Trip

Our second trip was my college hometown of Farmville. The Farmville area is home to two colleges, Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College. They are the main backbone of the town itself, and make it who it is today. Farmville is also home to High Bridge, which is considered one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the state. Also, due to Farmville being a college town, they have a great selection of family owned restaurants. One of my favorites to go to is Charley's Waterfront Café. They have a great selection of entrees, and they get their desserts from Mill Street Sweets. Mill Street Sweets is a local bakery and confectionary and is home to homemade pastries, doughnuts, breads, and now even lobster rolls!

Third Trip

Our third trip we went about an hour west to Appomattox. Appomattox is home to the Appomattox County Court House National Historic Park. This historic park holds a special place in American history. It was where Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee signed a letter stating that the South would surrender to the North. It is full of historic monuments, and the grounds are gorgeous. Downtown Appomattox also has a small town charm as well. They have a coffee and music shop called Baine's that has a retro feel to it, and is very welcoming.

Fourth Trip

Our fourth trip was to the mountain town of Front Royal. It is a hikers paradise and is home to many hiking and biking trails. It is also home to one of the most famous trails in the state called the Appalachian trail. Their dining options in downtown Front Royal are great too. They have these apple cider doughnuts made by a great restaurant called The Apple House.

Fifth Trip

Our fifth trip was to my second hometown of Richmond. Richmond is a melting pot of a city full of different cultures and people. One of the more popular places to go in Richmond is in the Museum District. The Museum District is home to the Science Museum of Richmond, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and the Virginia Museum of History and Culture.

Sixth Trip

The sixth and final trip was going across the southern border of Virginia! This place shares it's location with North Carolina, and is a popular vacation spot. This place is called Lake Gaston. Lake Gaston is home to many lakeside beaches and is popular with fishermen. They have several types of fish including cappie, bream, catfish, and many others!

I would like to give a huge thank you all to my viewers who have taken the time to view my blog! Your support means so much to me, and I hope to continue this blog once COVID decides to calm down a little more. Please keep in touch, and I hope to hear from you soon!
