"Wear out your boots and kick up the gravel, don't be afraid, take the road less traveled." (Lauren Alaina) This is one of my favorite songs to listen to when I'm traveling, and it has held so much more meaning when I came to this beautiful town in Prince Edward County. This small town that is home to two Universities, and is the third place that I call home. I welcome you to Farmville, Virginia. Now, you may be wondering... Where the hell is Farmville Virginia? This is a phrase that the town has taken accustom to, and prides itself of it for being so small. They even have t-shirts printed with that exact phrase! Which, if you are ever interested, stop by Pairet's Inc. They specialize in custom made t-shirts, sweaters, and pants. They also have already made shirts depicting a certain major or athletic department for their shirts, and you can get those customized as well.
Looking at Farmville from a tourist's perspective is something that I've had to get accustom to. I've been here for almost 4 years, and I realize that even in small towns, things are constantly changing. But the one thing that doesn't, is the hospitality that this community is known for, and the respect and pride that comes with being from a small town. Despite having two large universities, Farmville's population is according to the Census Bureau, has 7,846 people. From what I've been told it doubles during the school year for the amount of students that come through the town.
Farmville is also known for their outdoor sports, shopping, and their dining options as well. To give you some recommendations, Farmville has a kayaking shop called Appomattox River Company that you can rent kayaks and go onto the Appomattox River. In addition, they have beautiful state parks, like High Bridge State Park. It is home to one of the longest pedestrian footbridges in the state!

For shopping, they have several family-owned businesses, as well as one of the largest furniture outlets in Virginia, which is Greenfront Furniture. Finally, for their dining options, they have the best pastries you will ever eat at Mill Street Sweets in downtown Farmville. Their menu changes weekly, and have finally opened up after 6 months of closing due to Covid!
Check in next week to find a town known for General Lee...
